Just because you don't live in the same town or even the same state as your elderly parents doesn't mean that you can't still help them out. You can arrange for in-home elderly care for your parents that will provide them with the assistance they need to stay at home as they age.
#1 Grocery Shopping
It is easy to overlook what a physically demanding task grocery shopping can be. It requires one to be able to walk and lift for an extended period of time. It can also be mentally draining as well; finding all the supplies that you need and making all of those choices can easily become overwhelming.
Luckily, there are lots of services that allow you to arrange to have your groceries delivered. If your parents are tech-savvy, you can set up the application so that your parents can order their food through a grocery-delivery service that works in their area. If they need assistance, you can easily order their grocers for them. Most of these grocery delivery services will also help your parents put the groceries away as well.
#2 Housecleaning
Housecleaning is another task that can go to the wayside as your parents age. Once again, housecleaning is a physically demanding task. Find a housekeeping service that works in your parent's area and hire them to clean the house.
If your parents just need help with deep cleaning, such as cleaning the bathroom, the inside of the kitchen cabinets and dusting, a by-weekly house cleaning service is probably all they need. If your parents need help with more day-to-day tasks such as dishes and laundry, they may need a bi-weekly cleaning service.
#3 Health Care
As your parents age, they are going to have increasing healthcare needs. Managing and keeping track of those healthcare needs can be a lot to handle. In-home care teams can provide your parents with the assistance they need managing any health conditions they have, and the amount of coverage needed can be adjusted as your parent's needs adjust.
For example, if your parents just need help keeping track of their medication, someone can drop it for a short period of time every few days to make sure your parents on track with their medication. Or if your parent's assistance with physical therapy, a physical therapist can come by a few times a week to help your parents out. In-home care can help provide your parents with the health care support they need within the confines of their own home.
